    Event FAQs

How will the workshops be delivered?

Online via Microsoft Teams. Teachers will join via their own unique online link and stream the workshop in their classroom via a television screen, smart board or projector for all students to view as a group. Teams links are not shared with students. For online troubleshooting, please speak with your dedicated IT department.

    What technology do we need?

You will need access to a laptop or desktop computer to join the Microsoft Teams meeting and either a television, smart board or projector with speakers, to live stream the meeting to the classroom. You will also need a keyboard, microphone and web camera.

Do we have to have our web cameras on?

While not compulsory, it is encouraged so that other groups can see each other, and the facilitators can see what is happening in each classroom. We understand that local school guidelines or internet connections may limit whether your group can have their cameras on.

    How long are the workshops?

Each workshop runs for 1 hour, 15 minutes. Workshop content will run for the full hour, with an additional 15 minutes allocated for set-up time.

What happens if the time slot I want is full?

You can either select another session time for your class, or if another class within your school has already registered, consider asking them to combine your class groups. Alternatively, you can join the waitlist and wait for spot to become available. Classes on the waitlist will receive a classroom activity to complete with your students in your own time.

Can session times be shifted to suit our timetable?

Unfortunately, no. This is because workshops are offered to classes all across Australia. Our session times are defaulted to be displayed in AEDT/AEST (Melbourne, Sydney) time, but participants will join at their local time if they are joining from somewhere else. You can find your local time using this time zone converter.

What is my role as a teacher during the online workshops?

Teachers are required to supervise the students and manage behaviour throughout the session. We also ask that they support the group to engage and actively participate in the workshop discussions and activities. It is also important for teachers to monitor the wellbeing of students throughout the session and check in on anyone who they feel may have been impacted by the workshop content.

What if my class misses out?

There are limited spots available for our online workshops. We offer a waitlist that classes can join in the event that another class cancels their registration. Classes on the waitlist will be sent a classroom activity to use with their students in their own time.

What mental health topics will the workshop cover? What if a student has recently been impacted by a tragedy or other critical incident?

The workshops discuss mental health and how changes and transition may impact how we feel. We also promote help-seeking and encourage young people to reach out to their families and teachers if they need any support. If you’re aware of a student in your class who may find these discussions upsetting, please speak with their families and give them the option to opt out. If your school has recently been impacted by a critical incident or suicide death, please connect with the Be You team in your state or territory for support. Please click here to find contact details for each state and territory.
